Belgian outfit KAA Gent and Canada’s CF Montreal, home to Kenyan internationals Joseph Okumu and Victor Wanyama respectively were in action in league matches played on Saturday night and in the early hours of Sunday morning. While Okumu made a start for his new side, former Harambee Stars captain Wanyama missed action. Here is a wrap of how the two players got on.Joseph OkumuThe Harambee Stars defender had yet another disappointing result as his Gent side fell to a 1-0 at the hands of Oostende in A Belgian Jupiler League match played at Diaz Arena on Saturday night. After being brought on as a late substitute in the final seven minutes of Gent’s last game against Beerschot VA, Okumu was thrust back into the starting eleven against Oostende for his third successive appearance. His feature on the night was however not enough to prevent damage as Gent succumbed to a 73rd-minute strike from Senegalese forward Makhtar Gueye after being set up by Theo Ndicka Matam. The result meant that Okumu is yet to taste the winning feeling with Gent in the Belgian league. With their second loss in three games, Gent were left sitting second bottom on the log with only one point earned from their 2-2 draw against Beerschot VA.
Victor WanyamaThe former Harambee Stars captain was absent from CF Montreal’s Sunday morning fixture against DC United that ended in a 2-1 defeat. Wanyama missed the game as he was serving a suspension after being red-carded for an altercation in the team’s last fixture against Atlanta United.Montreal were handed the opening goal by Zachary Brault-Guillard in the 16th minute but two comeback goals from Andy Najar and Ola Kamara in the 40th and 54th minute ensured that Montreal remained winless in their last five games. A streak that has had a staggering four losses and one draw.Following the defeat, Montreal remained placed in 8th position on the log.
