After an impressive and overachieving performance in their first season back in the top flight Football Kenya Federation Premier League, Nairobi City Stars’ run in to the 2020/2021 season threatens to be curtailed after the club announced that three of its players have been ruled out for the rest of the season through injury. With just two games remaining before the season wraps up, interim head coach John Amboko will have to do without the services of veteran Peter ‘Pinchez’ Opiyo, winger Rodgers ‘Okuse’ Okumu and Wycliffe Otieno, all of who have been ruled out through various injury.FULLTIME SCORESMAT 2️⃣ – 0️⃣ NCSIt ends in defeat#BetterMustCome pic.twitter.com/e4i0W8FyKO— Official Nairobi City Stars Fc (@NrbCityStars) August 7, 2021 According to club physio Brian Otieno, given the recovery and rehabilitation plans for the trio, the ongoing season would have lapsed before they achieve full match fitness.“Pinchez suffered a sprained ankle of the ligament. He was to return to full training on 1st August but upon review, it was necessary to hand him a further two to three weeks rest to heal fully. Okuse picked a chest/lung injury. Despite featuring afterwards, he later complained of pain and difficulty in breathing during stress training and had to take total rest for three weeks. Wiki landed awkwardly and had an ankle dislocation. He is expected to sit out for a month before returning to action,” the physio is quoted on the club’s website.NEXT MATCH | FKF-PL Round 31🗓 | Saturday 14th August 2021🆚 Posta Rangers FC🏆 | FKF-PL ⏰ | 1500 EAT🏟 | Ruaraka Grounds#𝕊𝕚𝕞𝕓𝕒𝕎𝕒ℕ𝕒𝕚𝕣𝕠𝕓𝕚BETTER MUST COMEFollow us on Nairobi City Stars FC for all updates. pic.twitter.com/FJKG39v3Ma— Official Nairobi City Stars Fc (@NrbCityStars) August 11, 2021 Missing out on seven of their players in the last league fixture where Mathare United ended their two match winning streak following a 2-0 loss, Amboko cited the player absentees as one of the reasons why they lost.“We as a team were disappointed with the result we got against Mathare. Lack of player numbers, as well as unfamiliar combination had a bearing in the outcome of that game,” the head coach said. While the above-mentioned players will miss the remaining two clashes against Posta Rangers and KCB, Amboko will be boosted by the timely return of five key players in Anthony ‘Muki’ Kimani, Kevin ’Chumsy’ Okumu, Salim ‘Shitu’ Abdallah and Davis Agesa.
