In an ongoing fight in the footballing fraternity, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has made the decision to deduct fines imposed on the two biggest clubs of the land, Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards, from the monthly club grants the teams are entitled to receive from the sponsors of the top flight league.Back in July, K’ogalo and Ingwe had threatened to boycott the second leg of their Mashemeji Derby league match if FKF had not paid them money accrued from winning and participating in the FKF Cup tournament where Gor won and Leopards finished as the runners up.Gor and Ingwe boycott Mashemeji Derby, play friendly match insteadAs a consequence of rebelling, FKF president Nick Mwendwa, in a press conference held at Safari Park Hotel, docked the clubs three points each, suspended their two chairmen and fined Gor and Leopards Ksh. 4 million and Ksh. 6 million respectively as punishment forforfeiting the match. With Gor and Ingwe having not reached out to the federation in regards to how they plan to foot the imposed fines, FKF, in an official letter sent to both teams, made the decision to deduct half the grants from both Gor’s and Ingwe’s share moving forward, stating that the amount deducted will go towards settlement of the fines.“Please be advised that further to Gor Mahia’s failure to respond to the FKF on how the club’s fine of 4M for failing to honour FKFPL match no #260 will be settled, the federation has made a final decision to deduct half of Gor Mahia’s monthly grants moving forward to go towards settlement of the said fine,”“In this regard, and in order to enable Gor meet its obligation both at the federation and club level, Ksh. 1,324,500 will be transferred to your bank account immediately upon receipt of the requested documents while Ksh. 1,324,500 will be retained by the federation to go towards the partial settlement of Gor Mahia’s 4M fine,” the letter sent to Gor read.FKF fine AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia Ksh10 million and dock both clubs three pointsIn the other letter, the same punishment was also dished out to Ingwe who have an extra 2M.“In this regard, and in order to enable AFC Leopards meet its obligation both at the federation and club level, Ksh. 1,124,500 will be transferred to your bank account immediately upon receipt of the requested documents while Ksh. 1,524,500 will be retained by the federation to go towards the partial settlement of AFC Leopard’s 6M fine and the subsequent settlement of KSh. 200,000 being AFC Leopards cash advance,” the letter sent to Leopards read. While Gor and Ingwe got affected, CEO Barry Otieno confirmed that the remaining teams were sent out a total of Ksh. 2.6M as grants for the month of June, July and August.“We have sent Ksh. 2.6 million grants to each FKFPL club apart from Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards. We have asked them to provide bank accounts. We cannot deal with their chairmen, Ambrose Rachier and Dan Shikanda, as they remain suspended in our books. They (the two clubs) have never responded to our letters and we therefore don’t know how they are planning to pay the fines. We will therefore retain half their grants every month until the fine is fully paid. The grant is for June, July and August,” Barry confirmed to Mozzart Sport.
