Sofapaka thump Wazito to complete a memorable league double over crypto investor Don Rico’s charges

Sofapaka completed a season’s double over Wazito after beating the Francis Kimanzi-led team 3-0 in an FKF Premier League match staged at the Thika Sub-County Stadium on Saturday afternoon.Both teams had lost their last league assignments and went into the clash keen on bouncing back, in the end it proved to be a closely fought game.Wazito started the game strongly and had the first chance in the 2nd minute when Levin Odhiambo delivered a good cross into the area, Sofapaka defenders however reacted quickly before Michael Owino could pounce. Five minutes later it was Rooney Onyango’s turn to deliver a cross but once again it was dealt with by Sofapaka backline.Vincent Oburu had two quick chances in the 9th and 11th minutes. He first shot over the bar from inside the penalty area before shooting directly at the keeper moments later. Sofapaka’s first chance came in the 12th minute when Titus Achesa had a go on Wazito goal, his attempt however missed the target narrowly.Wazito were forced to make a change after 25 minutes of play when Oburu picked an injury to be replaced by Whyvone Isuza.Sofapaka missed three chances in quick succession. First it was Joe Waithira in the 30th minute when he failed to hit the back of the net with Peter Odhiambo off his goal area. Moments later he missed a similar opportunity when he hesitated inside the penalty area allowing Wazito defenders to clear. The third chance came in the 33rd minute when Odhiambo made an error by passing the ball to King’atua who equally couldn’t score with an empty net just in front of him. The first half ended barren.Eight minutes into the second half, Sofapaka went ahead through talisman Lawrence Juma. The midfielder curled home his 15th of the season after a quick start from a set piece. Wazito had a chance to hit back five minutes later after an error from Sofapaka keeper Kevin Omondi but Musa Masika shot over the bar. At the hour mark Eli Asieche curled his effort narrowly wide with Omondi well beaten.Against the run of play, Joe Waithira scored Sofapaka’s second. Juma put the winger through on goal and he did the rest firing past Odhiambo on Wazito goal.The game slowly turned to an end affair with Sofapaka looking dangerous on the break after resorting to letting Wazito have much of the ball.Omondi on Sofapaka goal pulled a huge save ten minutes from time to deny Rooney, stopping his acrobatic attempt.Batoto ba Mungu compounded Wazito’s misery in the 90th minute with a third goal. Ambrose Sifuna raced towards goal before unleashing a thunderbolt that hit the crossbar and bounced off Johnstone Omurwa into the back of the net.
