Gor Mahia treasurer slams ‘cartel’ for signing Malian keeper

Barely a day after Gor Mahia signed Malian goalkeeper Adama Keita from Cl Kamsar, club treasurer Dolphina Adhiambo has come out guns blazing revealing that the signing was made without consultation within the club management.Pictures of the 31-year old shot-stopper signing his Gor Mahia contract made rounds on the interwebs on Saturday with many fans expressing their dissatisfaction with the club’s management to rope in another goalkeeper when they already have four within their ranks.Adhiambo has now joined the disapproval chorus, saying the decision was not discussed at the executive level and adding that some people want to benefit financially from the move. She accused two executive committee members of roping in the experienced keeper.“I was not involved in his (Keita) signing. It is time for the cartels to start eating. The two EC members who were involved should clear the air,” an agitated Adhiambo told the Nairobi News.DONE DEAL | Gor Mahia FC have signed Malian goalkeeper Adama Keita on a 2-year deal until 2023. ✍🏽The 31-year-old shot-stopper has previously played for CI Kamsar of Guinea, and Malian clubs Djoliba AC and Cercle Olympique Bamako.#FKFPL pic.twitter.com/4yKQYYzMCC— vumaSPORT (@vumaSPORT) August 14, 2021 Keita’s signing brings the number of goalkeepers in Gor Mahia’s ranks to five. The other four are veteran Boniface Oluoch who has not featured much this campaign, Samuel Njau who has featured in two games under new coach Mark Harrison, Gad Mathews who is the current first-choice keeper, and Kenya U23 keeper Caleb Omondi. The new keeper’s registration however still hangs in the balance as Gor is yet to be fully cleared by FIFA to sign players after a transfer embargo was slapped on them for failing to pay former players and coach. The Malian’s signing has come as shock to a section of club stakeholders as it comes at a time when the club is struggling to keep hold of their best players due to financial challenges that have seen the playing unit and technical bench members go for a couple of months without pay.Three players have already walked out on the club due to the financial situation; Kenneth Muguna moved to Azam in Tanzania while Charles Momanyi is set to join Tusker FC, Clifton Miheso has also ditched the record league champions.
