Nairobi City Stars team coordinator Samson Otieno has lauded the contribution of his players in aiding their community club FIFA Best to emerge victorious in the 2021 Dennis Oliech Cup that was sponsored by leading betting firm Mozzart Bet.Wesley Onguso, Herit Mungai, Anthony ‘Muki’ Kimani, Erick Ombija, Timothy Ouma, and his brother Elvis Ojiambo, and Edwin Buliba all featured in the final game against Bundes FC with another City Stars player Oliver Maloba being an unused substitute.Timothy Ouma, a City Stars forward, scored a brace in the first half that saw FIFA Best bag Kshs.300,000, a golden trophy, and mtaa bragging rights, winning the top scorer gong in the process as he finished the tournament with seven goals, and Otieno is happy with how his players contributed to the success of FIFA Best.“We are proud our boys came out and helped their team FIFA Best lift the Cup. I have been attending those games from preliminaries to the final. I have been in all these matches and I could have told them not to take part. Some of these boys have grown up there, the community owns these boys. The CEO Patrick Korir was following the final on TV and watched the entire 90 minutes. If we had told them as a club not to play, they would not have played,” Otieno said.Congratulations to Fifa Best FC who are the 2021 #DennisOliechCup winners🎊🎉🏆Tournament powered by @mozzartbetkenya pic.twitter.com/CPM5PRVdYs— Mozzart Sport Kenya (@MozzartSportKe) August 15, 2021 Otieno revealed that he was personally summoned by the club and they requested that they have some of their players represent the community in the tournament and together with the CEO they obliged, having in mind that the club is owned by the community and there is not much at stake in the league for the Kawangware-based side.He went ahead to add that it was a good chance for the community to watch some of City Stars’ players whom they do not get the chance to watch as there are no fans allowed in league matches yet.”We cleared them to play in the tournament and told them to enjoy themselves as they represent the community now that we are safe from relegation, and that we cannot win the league ideally. The players came to us to request if they can play. I was also summoned by the community and they explained to me why they need the players. “Kawangware is where our fanbase is and those fans do not get the chance to watch their players as there are no fans allowed in our league games, this was a chance for the community to watch those players. Nairobi City Stars is for the Kawangware community and we listen to them. Therefore, any time they make a request we listen to them,” Otieno said. 👏👏👏👏👏 Hongera sana 🔥. pic.twitter.com/jRVVEr4ADN— Mozzart Bet Kenya (@mozzartbetkenya) August 15, 2021 Bundes also fielded a Nairobi City Stars player in defensive midfielder Charles Otieno, with Rowland Makati also featuring in the tournament for Dagoretti Hotsatrs who were eliminated earlier by FIFA Best.
