Mathare United confirmed top-flight safety with a 1-0 win over Ulinzi Stars on Wednesday afternoon at Ruaraka Grounds.The Slum Boys needed to win to finally beat the drop and they did just that courtesy of a John Mwangi goal.Mathare started the game positively going ahead in the 9th minute through John Mwangi. The forward dispossessed John Kago and raced towards goal before firing past James Saruni on Ulinzi goal. Another chance went begging in the 39th minute when Masita Masuta missed an empty goal shooting over the bar. The first half ended in Mathare’s favorUlinzi showed more ambition after the interval, by attacking from all sides. David Okello on Mathare goal was forced to pull saves severally as the Soldiers went all out. The Slum Boys however managed to calm the early onslaught. At the hour mark, David Ochieng forced Saruni to pull a great save from a freekick delivery.Mathare were dealt a major blow in the 66th minute when Alfonse Ndonye was given his matching orders for a second bookable offense. Coach Frank Ouna responded by taking off striker Clifford Alwanga for captain Crispin Oduor to fill the void vacated by Ndonye.Despite being a man down, Mathare played well to earn all the points that confirmed their safety.
