The last of Kisumu-based clubs in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL), Western Stima suffered the dreaded drop following a 1-0 loss to Wazito FC on Wednesday.Eric Otieno’s lone goal in the 76th minute, minutes after coming on as a substitute compounded Stima’s woes as they failed to capitalize on the remaining matches to maintain Premier League status.Their relegation was confirmed after Vihiga United thumped Kakamega Homeboyz 3-1 with goals from Sammy Sindani and Lawrence Luvanda’s brace enough for the Vihiga-based outfit to come from a goal down after Fasanmi Kingsley opened the scoring for Homeboyz.FTWazito FC 1-0 Western Stima (Eric Otieno) #Wazito4life pic.twitter.com/ymNZGaoZsM— WAZITO FOOTBALL CLUB (@wazitofc) August 18, 2021 The situation was looking bleak for Stima with two rounds of matches before the curtains draw on the 2020-2021 season as they needed to win all their remaining matches and hope either Mathare United or Vihiga United drop points.Vihiga are however still not marked safe from relegation having finished their season in the Promotion/Relegation Playoff and will play against the third-best team in the National Super League (NSL).The county-funded team are the only side to have finished the season thus far, having played 32 games already with Mathare United left to breathe easy in their closing game against Western Stima.Stima have endured a tumultuous season that saw them lose players and the coach midseason after the club was rocked by match-fixing claims.Wazito who compounded Stima to relegation raided them during the offseason transfer window for Fidel Origa, Maurice Ojwang, Edwin Omondi and Steven Odhiambo with the latter duo returning back on loan during the midseason. This becomes the second relegation for Stima after failing to beat the drop back in 2017 but returned to the league at the first time of asking.
