PSG gaze through Brest without Messi and Neymar

Last few weeks, we’ve been asking ourselves what’s it going to be once Messi, Mbappe and Neymar team up in PSG’s attacking line. And we still don’t know. But a mighty Mbappe is obviously capable of delivering the fantastic stuff all by himself. The South American duo didn’t travel to Brest, though it seems they weren’t even needed.Paris slot created a dozen of chances in the first half, nearly breaking the deadlock early in the game following a beautiful set-pieces action that involved Icardi, Mbappe and, finally, Veratti. However, the latter missed the target despite being totally unmarked in the middle of the box.Where Veratti failed, Ander Herrera didn’t. A furious run from the midfield found him in a solid position near the edge of the box. His volley was powerful, and although Brest’s keeper did his best to stop it, the scoreboard showed 1-0 for the visitors.Soon enough, the Saints doubled the lead, and the man in charge was none other than Kylian Mbappe. His long-range header stunned Brest players, let alone his teammates and the PSG fans.Mbappe scores his first goal in Ligue 1 this season 💫 pic.twitter.com/wCAMVa8bJa— B/R Football (@brfootball) August 20, 2021 Even though everybody was thinking we’re heading into a Brest catastrophe, the home team bounced back even before the break. A beautiful counter-attack saw Faivre producing an out-of-this-world assist that made Honorat’s job probably the easiest on Earth. It was 2-1.##EDITORS_CHOICE##The second half somehow unexpectedly turned into a lullaby before Idrissa Gueye hit a screamer almost 40 yards out to kill the game and earn a standing ovation in Brest.Idrissa Gueye with a thunder bastard of a goal for PSG. https://t.co/DUvXPXBj3T— jmp121 🏆 #lufc (@Jamesmp121) August 20, 2021 However, Brest’s die-hard squad wasn’t ready to surrender once again. They hit back almost instantly through another counter-attack with a terrific ball movement. Steve Mounie was there to place it behind Keylor Navas and prove that defence is probably Mauricio Pochettino’s weakest link. A pich of drama, however, didn’t change the outcome, although Brest had some serious chances near the stoppage time.Amid their attacks, Paris struck with a spectacular counter-attack. Di Maria – Hakimi – Di Maria connection did all the work, and Di Maria’s beautiful chip was there to finish it in some style.DI MARIA 🤩💥 What a goal in the last moments.
