Salah closer to another record, contract talks with Liverpool begin

“I hope they’re watching” tweeted Mohamed Salah’s agent Ramy Abbas last week, after his client scored a stunner against Norwich. Off course, the tweet was aimed at Liverpool owners. As any agent, Abbas is putting additional pressure on the Reds brass in order to get his client a new contract extension. And Liverpool is watching and drafting a contract. But since we are talking about team’s best player, it has to be the biggest contract of them all. The Reds have 12 players in line for extension, as their contract, just as Mo’s are expiring in two years time. And so far, Liverpool has managed to secure Van Dijk, Fabinho, Tren-Alexander and Allison.✍️ Liverpool have started contract talks with Mohamed Salah and are confident of agreeing an extension | @neiljonesgoal for Goal pic.twitter.com/fTqdwJpJ5Z— Goal (@goal) August 20, 2021 But, there are no news about the African’s best player. However, if there are no news, it doesn’t mean that the talks haven’t started. And coach Jurgen Klopp has all but confirmed that.“We don’t really speak about these kinds of things. Two things. Mo is obviously in a really, really good moment football-wise, mood-wise, how he behaved from the first day when he came back, absolutely great. We are all adults, we are all professionals. When there are talks then there are talks – and when there is a decision we will tell you. Until then, it’s only important how the parties work together in these things; it’s not about Mo, it’s more in general. If that’s perfect, what it is, then we don’t have to talk about anything else and the decisive people can talk in the background. With two years left you can imagine there are talks, that’s it” said Klopp at the press conference before the Burnley clash.Klopp to homophobic fans: ‘If that’s your attitude, you are idiots’The Egypt international is studious, regularly seeking out information on his stats, but also those of attackers past and present. He is four goals shy of smashing in a century for Liverpool in the Premier League, having made only 146 appearances, putting his strike rate on par with the legendary Roger Hunt. He already passed other Liverpool greats like Ian Rush and Robbie Fowler, and his goal ratio is more in line with Thierry Henry, Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane. And Salah will look to score some more goals in today’s match against Burnley, a team that ended their 68-game unbeaten home run in the Premier League back in January. Andrew Robertson continues to be Liverpool’s only injury as the fullback is out with an ankle injury. Henderson, Thiago and Curtis Jones return to training this week and could be included in the squad. Burnley have a full squad to choose from, apart from the long time absentees Kevin Long and Dale Stephens. They lost last week against Brighton, after leading 1-0 and now they are facing an even tougher task against injury free Liverpool.ENGLAND PREMIER LEAGUE ROUND 2Saturday14:30 (1.25) Liverpool (6.50) Burnley (10.0)17:00 (1.95) Aston Villa (3.50) Newcastle (3.90)17:00 (2.95) Crystal Palace (3.0) Brentford (2.90)17:00 (2.55) Leeds (3.35) Everton (2.75)17:00 (1.13) Manchester City (9.50) Norwich (16.0)18:30 (1.80) Brighton & Hove Albion (3.45) Watford (4.80)Sunday 16:00 (5.50) Southampton (3.80) Manchester United (1.65)16:00 (2.95) Wolverhampton (3.20) Tottenham (2.50)18:30 (4.50) Arsenal (3.45) Chelsea (1.85)Monday22:00 (2.65) West Ham (3.25) Leicester (2.70)
