Heading into the game, the Brewers needed to avoid a defeat against United to avert any surprises on the final day of the season as they boasted of a +7 goal-defence over KCB Despite knowing that the title was all but in the bag, Tusker coach Robert Matano did not take any chances naming a very strong lineup. Humphrey Mieno, Jackson Macharia Luke Namanda and Boniface Muchiri all started. The Brewers would have gone ahead as early as the second minute but a fantastic save from keeper Brian Opondo denied Luke Namanda who was through on goal. Next was Apollo Otieno whose cracker from the edge of the area was deflected over for a corner kick. United got their first opportunity in the 11th minute from a set-piece but Jacob Onyango’s header went straight into Emery Mvuyekure’waiting arms. The Rwandese keeper was forced into another save in the 19th minute, collecting a Peter Anyona header.Tusker won a penalty after a quick break in the 25th minute, Boniface Muchiri danced his way into the area before he was brought down in the area, a spot kick was awarded which Rodgers Aloro stepped forward to convert. Eight minutes later, Henry Meja ended his goal-drought with a cool finish from inside the penalty area. Raphael Asudi, Stephen Obukui and Alex Sunga were rested for Stephen Waruru, David Orem and Eric Gichimu. Just before the break Muchiri nearly got a third for Tusker but his curler hit the roof of the net. Matano’s charges took a cushioned lead to the break.Seven minutes into the second, United halved the deficit through Orem who squeezed the ball past Mvuyekure.Matano responded by making three changes. Sammy Meja, Jackson Macharia and Boniface Muchiri were rested for Chris Ochieng, George Odhiambo and Hillary Wandera.United continued to push for a leveler and they particularly looked dangerous on the break and on set pieces. David Orem has a great opportunity to his second in the 73rd minute but he shot directly at Mvuyekure while through on goal. The same duo facedoff again in the 78th minute but once again the keeper came out on top. Lambert Oyuga’s goal-line clearance in the 80th minute denied Namanda what looked like an imminent goal. The Brewers managed to defend their advantage to lift the title with 65 points. Bidco on the othet hand finish in 11th position with 44 points.
