In the times of yore, a 4th place finish constituted an underwhelming season for AFC Leopards.A similar finish in the just concluded season has been by indifference despite the fact that Ingwe managed a rare feat of finishing above arch-rivals Gor Mahia for the first time in 16 years. The last time Ingwe got one better of their rivals in the log standings was the 2004-2005 season when K’Ogalo finished the season in relegation places but miraculously retained their league status. The league was divided into two, Group A and Group B with Gor Mahia finishing in 10th place in the 12-team log and were supposed to suffer the dreaded drop alongside National Bank of Kenya and Re-Union. The season saw Gor Mahia win a paltry six out of 22 matches but a meeting convened by the then Chairman Erastus Okul with the Kenya Football Federation (KFF) disputing the eligibility of a Kangemi United player. The league declared that the player was ineligible with Kangemi United docked three points which ultimately saw them suffer the drop but an appeal was lodged and Kangemi were reinstated into the league. However, in an interesting turn of events, Nzoia Sugar dropped out of the league, a situation in which the league chairmen decided to have a Playoff between the two highest-ranked clubs in Group A and B that had suffered relegation.🟢 | FINAL STANDINGSHere are the 2020/21 season standings after final matches were played yesterday. In the 2020-2021 season AFC Leopards finished fourth on the log while Gor Mahia finished eighth, three points below Ingwe but capped their torrid season by clinching the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup.
