Vihiga Queens are focused on the CECAFA zonal Women’s Champions League qualifiers set to kick off this coming Saturday and are in no hurry to get a replacement for the departed coach Alex Alumirah. In his absence, Club CEO Mike Senelwa has confirmed that the assistant coach Boniface Nyamunyamu will ascend to the position of the head coach and will be in charge when the team takes on regional opponents, with their first game being against Commercial Bank of Ethiopia FC on SundayThe club announced that they had parted ways with the long-serving coach through their social media accounts, saying that the coach had requested to terminate his engagement with the team due to personal reasons, something that Alumirah affirmed.Senelwa is adamant that the departure will not have such a big impact on Vihiga Queens in the qualifiers as Nyamunyamu and Alumirah worked hand in hand in preparing the girls for the inaugural event.”Boniface Nyamunyamu will be assuming the role of the head coach ahead of the qualifiers just like we have communicated. Alex requested to terminate his contract with us and we have honored his request. I do not think that there will be a big gap in the tournament as Bonny(Nyamunyamu) and Alex were working together while preparing the team for the qualifiers,” Senelwa said. The CEO added that they are enjoying the support of the Football Kenya Federation who have allowed Harambee Starlets head coach Charles Okere to sharpen the team for this assignment.”We are very thankful to the Federation as they have allowed Harambee Starlets coach Okere (Charles) to be with our team like we had requested even before the matches were postponed. It is a boost for us,” he addedCECAFA Women’s CL: Fixtures for inaugural zonal CL qualifiers releasedDuring Alumirah’s time at the helm, Vihiga Queens won one FKF Division 1 title and three KWPL titles.
