South Sudanese’s Yei Joint Stars FC begun their CECAFA Zone Women’s Champions League qualification with a 2-1 win over Zanzibari’s New Generation in a group B match played at the Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday afternoon.Joseph Makunga opened the scoring for the South Sudanese outfit in the 38th minute before Deborah Alworonga made it 2-0 in the 38th minute. Hawa Juma then scored the consolation goal for New Generation shortly after the intervalNew Generation’s Juma Hawa had a go at Yei Joint Stars goal in the first minute of the game but Anna Stephen in goal was equal to the task , moments later Makunga Joseph’s shot was saved by Zuena Yasin on New Generation’s goal. In the 9th minute Luka Alworonga thought she had given Stars the lead only for her effort to come off the upright with the goalie well beaten.The goal did finally come in the 15th minute through Makunga who put herself through on goal with some superb piece of skill before slotting past Zuena . The South Sudanese side slowly took control of the match forcing New Generation to a defensive shape. They however looked dangerous on the break but failed to make the rare chances count. Another moment individual brilliance resulted to a second goal for Yei Joint in the 38th minute. Alworonga beat the defence before calmly finding the back of the net with a low finish. Yei took a 2-0 lead to the break.Two minutes into the second half, substitute Hafidha Ali should have halved the deficit for New Generation when she found herself in a prime position but she somehow shot over the bar with the goal at her Mercy. Two minutes later they got the goal when Hawa Juma powered home from inside the area to give his side a fighting chance.They continued to fight for the leveler while at the other end Yei looked dangerous on the break, they however failed to make their counter attacks count.
