Who is right and who is wrong: Ainsley Maitland-Niles suspended from Arsenal first-team training

After publicly complaining about Gunners blocking his deal to Everton on Instagram as transfer deadline draws ever closer, Ainsley Maitland-Niles has been told by Arsenal to train away from the first team.As per reports, he was told by the Gunners in a quickly arranged meeting that he was not allowed to depart the Emirates this summer.Maitland-Niles posted an Instagram story on Monday, clearly complaining about the failed move. And according to The Mirror and Sportsmail, the English footballer has now been told by the club he will be training away from the first team following his outburst. Maitland-Niles made his England debut in a full-back role in September 2020 and he wanted to focus on playing at full-back since his performances at that position earned him a place in the England squad. Mikel Arteta, on the other hand, wanted the footballer to shift over to a more of a midfield role. Spaniard did give Maitland-Niles some minutes in the 5-0 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday but, to Englishman’s disappointment, positioned the player in the central midfield.Maitland-Niles is yet to start a match under Arteta this season with Callum Chambers and Cedric Soares playing ahead of him at right-back so far, with new left-sided defender Nuno Tavares used briefly at right-back as well this season.Arsenal waving goodbye to their academy players?A massive disappointment for Maitland-Niles was that he also denied a starting spot in Arsenal’s 6-0 Carabao Cup win over West Brom. Spanish manager made seven changes to his squad in that match and Maitland-Niles played only the final half-hour.It is understood the 24-year-old left the above-mentioned meeting with the club officials confused – he was allegedly not sure why the club had vetoed his move up north. But it seems that the possibility of the player being successful at a direct rival may have influenced the club’s decision to keep him.Whether Arsenal change their stance during the closing hours of the transfer window, it remains to be seen – as there is a number of Premier League clubs interested in the Arsenal academy product.##NAJAVA_MECA_5790889##This is not the first time the Gunners have prevented Maitland-Niles from leaving Emirates – during the last window Arsenal blocked a potential move to Liverpool and Leicester before allowing Maitland-Niles to join relegation threatened West Bromwich. Also, in the summer 2020 window, player’s potential move to Wolverhampton was something Arsenal were not interested in and therefor nipped the negotiations in the bud.
