Di Maria: ‘Mourinho is insane, he fights with anyone, Neymar is a living birthday party”

Angel Di Maria had an illustrious career so far. Coming from Argentina (which already tells a lot), the creative midfielder played in biggest clubs in the world: Manchester United, Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain, along with being a regular in the Argentina national team. And when a guy like that has a story (or more precisely stories) to tell, you listen. Di Maria recently won Copa America with Argentina, and he did it alongside his new teammate in PSG, Lionel Messi. Also, the Argentinian played alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, and was coached by some of the greatest, like Jose Mourinho or Luis Van Gaal.In a recent interview for Libero, Di Maria talked about those years and funny situations with coaches and players. Of course, his dream of playing alongside Messi in a European club suddenly became real.”I was missing the cherry on top; to play with Leo in a club. I had the chance to go and play with him at Barca. Nowadays we’re the first two in training everyday. Between us, I’m fide and he is el enano. He doesn’t like the show, he always gathered around people who treat him like a person and not put him on a pedestal” said Di Maria.(©AFP)It is a well known fact that Messi’s big whish was to win something with Argentina. When they won Copa America this year, players were very joyful. Di Maria, who ended up scoring the only goal of the match against Brazil, explained the happiness and what it meant to the older guys in the squad.”It was the goal I celebrated most in my life. I told my wife, I told Masche. It was written on the walls. Leo told me this was gonna be my final. We went through so much shit, we deserved it. I have 85.000 photos with the cup. We were sitting with Leo and Kun and wouldn’t share it with anyone! Some kids played their first Copa and won it. How fucking lucky, we had to suffer for many years. If I didn’t win something with Argentina I was going to suffer a lot after retiring” admitted the Argentinian.Ángel di María on his time at United: “I didn’t give a f*** about the Manchester United No 7, at first they talked to me a lot about it… it was just a shirt. My problem at Manchester was the coach (Louis Van Gaal)”#MUFC #DiMaria [@TyCSports] pic.twitter.com/eZ29t0Ccx3— Daily Transfers (@DailyTransfer1_) September 2, 2021 In the finals, they defeated their great rival and teammate from PSG, Neymar Jr. Di Maria has an opinion about the Brazilian.”Neymar is what you see: Joy. He’s a living birthday party. Typical Brazilian, an exceptional person. We always mock him with Paredes. We say “Us first, and in 2nd place….” we drive him nuts. Neymar is the most party driven guy I’ve ever played with. Hands down” revealed Di Maria.(8.50) VENEZUELA (4.50) ARGENTINA (1.40)After Benfica, the Argentinian signed for Manchester United. He came with high hopes, even handed a number 7 shirt, but it ended badly, mostly because of coach Van Gaal.”I didn’t give a fuck about the Manchester United No. 7, at first they talked to me a lot about it… it was just a shirt. My problem at Manchester was the coach. Van Gaal was the worst of my career. I would score, assist, and the next day he would show me my misplaced passes. He displaced me from one day to the other, he didn’t like players being more than him” said Di Maria his side of the story.Di Maria subbed because his house was robbed with family held hostageIf the problem in Manchester was the coach, in Real, where he went next was the president, the mighty Florentino Perez. He won the Champions League, played with Cristiano Ronaldo and under Jose Mourinho, who he considers “crazy”.”Mourinho is insane, with me he was always a good guy. He fought with anyone though, he didn’t give a fuck. One time he fought with Ronaldo telling him he didn’t run, that everyone ran for him. I invited Cristiano to my first birthday in Madrid and thought he wouldn’t show up. He came and drank beer with my friends like it was nothing. Ronaldo and a few more fought for me to stay in the club but with that little guy Fiorentino running things there, it was a bit difficult” revealed Di Maria.
