Former Gor Mahia goalkeeper in talks with Zambian club

Former Wazito and Gor Mahia goalkeeper Levis Opiyo could be the latest departing player from the Football Kenya Federation Premier League to join the Zambian League after an unnamed club from Zambia is reported to be interested in his services.Despite only joining the Ricardo Badoer funded side in February this year from record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia, the custodian has since fallen out of favour and is no longer a part of the Francis Kimanzi coached side.At the time of signing, Opiyo only trained for three days before being thrust into the starting eleven in what was a show of faith then by the former national team head coach. Six months later, the goalkeeper was shown the exit door in unclear circumstances.Levis Opiyo opens up on first Wazito start a day after signingAnd now as the goalkeeper revealed to Mozzart Sport, should talks proceed accordingly, he could join the legion of Kenyans plying their trade in Zambia.“I am no longer at Wazito now and my main focus is on getting my next move. Talks with a club from Zambia which I will not name for now are currently underway and when the time is right and everything goes well I will put it out there. I have also received offers locally which I will also put into consideration,” the goalkeeper revealed.Should the deal materialize, Opiyo will follow suit in the footsteps of former AFC Leopards winger Harrison Mwendwa and former Tusker captain Hashim Sempala as players who have recently ditched the Kenyan League for Zambia where they both signed for Kabwe Warriors who will be taking part in the 2021 CAF Confederation Cup continental tournament.🇿🇲 Kabwe Warriors have found an agreement with 🇰🇪 Harrison Mwendwa (28) who plays for AFC Leopards. ✅ Harrison will arrive in Zambia before the end of the week to pen a two-year deal. 📝Kabwe Warriors will play in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.#TotalEnergiesCAFCC pic.twitter.com/wzDFSob13D— Micky Jnr ✪ (@MickyJnr__) August 10, 2021 Kenyans in goalkeeper Ian Otieno and striker Jesse Jackson Were, midfielders Duncan Otieno and Duke Abuya are also some of the Kenyan plying their trade in the Zambian top flight.
