Another year brings another grueling contract saga involving Milan and rich admirers

Milan lost important players Gianluigi Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu without receiving a cent of compensation. Donnarumma went to Paris, and Calhanoglu made the controversial switch to rivals Inter after they’d both been locked into long and ultimately fruitless contract negotiations over the past year or so.With the San Siro club still reeling after the loss of two first-team members, they are already facing the same old scenario once more – with their star midfielder Franck Kessie in the last year of contract and talks barely progressing.👏 Kessie salutes the fans, who were singing: “Sign the contract, President sign the contract.”📹 @NonEvolutopic.twitter.com/tNFXTaih4G— SempreMilan (@SempreMilanCom) August 28, 2021 During the Tokyo Olympics, in which Kessie represented Ivory Coast, he spoke to the Italian media and said that he’d soon return to Milan to sign a new contract and that the fans needn’t worry. However, time is passing, and the new deal is yet to be concluded – and big European clubs have already been put on alert. If Milan fail to extend Kessie’s deal before the turn of the year, anyone would be allowed to lure the player without even talking to the Rossoneri.Gazzetta Dello Sport says that the former Atalanta star is demanding a contract worth $8.3 million net per year with another $2.4 million in potential bonuses. Milan are offering around $7.7 million – and even that is three times what Kessie is currently earning.12 September: (2.25) Milan (3.40) Lazio (3.20)Milan have to ask themselves how important Kessie is to them and whether they can afford to lose him on a free transfer. Their current central midfield options of Rade Krunic and Sandro Tonali are probably not good enough in the season where the club is finally back competing in the Champions League. Losing a player over a couple of million in wages per year indeed is a far more acceptable scenario than splashing tens of millions in fees and wages on a player that would be an able replacement for the industrious midfielder.🗞[@CalcioMercatoIT] | Tottenham Hotspur are ready to offer Franck Kessie a contract, with AC Milan midfielder’s contract set to expire soon.👔Fabio Paratici is readying an offer worth €8m-a-year (£6.9m), which equates to £134,615-a-week. #THFC #COYS pic.twitter.com/rcOFrYGH3x— Last Word On Spurs🎙 (@LastWordOnSpurs) September 2, 2021 Chelsea, Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain are waiting in the wings with their cheque books open. Milan should go about their business quickly.
