Vihiga to stick with starting lineup against Simba

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Women’s league 2019 champions, Vihiga Queens, who are representing the country in the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Zonal qualifiers take on Tanzanian champions Simba Queens in one of the competition semi-finals set for Monday 6 September 2021. Assistant coach Boniface Nyamunyamu who has been in charge together with the national team coach Charles Okere says they will not tinker their starting lineup ahead of the semis clash. The side began their campaign on the losing end, going down 4-2 to group leaders Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) before redeeming themselves with the biggest winning margin in the tournament so far, a 11-0 thrashing of South Sudan’s Yei Joint Stars. Vihiga Queens to face Simba in the semifinal stage of the ongoing #CECAFAWCLQ https://t.co/2YLMyCSn3S— Mozzart Sport Kenya (@MozzartSportKe) September 3, 2021 On Friday, however, the side struggled to contain Zanzibar’s New Generation who came into the encounter without a win and only managed a single goal in the first 45 minutes. Vihiga also came close to conceding in the half, twice saved by the crossbar. They played a better second half, seemingly more settled, to score seven goals, three coming in the four additional minutes of the match. “We are up against Simba who are a tough side. We will, however, stick to the squad that started in the Zanzibar match because I believe in not changing a winning side,” offered Nyamunyamu. Gentrix Shikangwa and Terry Engesha starred in the second half, the former adding two to her first-half goal for a hattrick while the latter scored two in the side’s 8-0 victory. “We had a slow start but we had to talk to the players to settle and play our game which worked. Going forward, however, we have to settle early in the match. We will give it our all in the remaining matches,” Nyamunyamu added. One word for Jentrix Shikangwa aka Jentyyyyyy, today’s ⚽⚽⚽ scorer..#GodNiMsoo#CECAFA2021 pic.twitter.com/astp04A2Yp— Vihiga Queens FC (@Vihigaqueens) September 3, 2021 The third-place playoff and final have been scheduled for Thursday, 9 September 2021, at the Nyayo National Stadium. At stake for the winner of this inaugural competition is a chance to represent the CECAFA region in the inaugural CAF Women Champions League, to be hosted in Egypt later this year.
