The long-lasting Gudjohnsen dynasty makes the history of Iceland

Elizabeth II (United Kingdom) – 69 years of a reign so farFranz Joseph (Austria) – 67 years of the reignHirohito (Japan) – 62 years of the reignGudjohnsen (Iceland) – 42 years of a reign so farThe first three names are among the longest-serving monarchs in the world’s history, with Queen Elizabeth still incumbent after inheriting the crown back in 1953.Unlike her and two other emperors, Gudjohnsen’s dynasty relies on three generations of leaders coming from the same family. It all started back in 1979 when then-teenager Arnor Gudjohnsen made his debut for Iceland, a small state situated in Northern Europe, not far away from the Arctic.Arnor kisses his sub (and son) Eidur in 1996 (©Screenshot)A prolific striker – who featured for Anderlecht and Bordeaux among the other slots – had an impressive career with the national team, playing for Iceland until 1997. During those years, he earned as many as 73 caps and scored 14 goals. In one of his last appearances for the national side, in 1996 away at Estonia, a coach decided to replace him in the second half. The guy who came in instead of him was none other than Eidur Gudjohnsen, his then-18-year-old son. Eidur will achieve the most incredible heights in terms of professional football, winning the Champions League, Premier League and La Liga during his prolific career spent in Chelsea, Barcelona and many other significant European teams.Just like his father, Eidur represented Iceland for three decades. After the mentioned debut in 1996, he was capped 88 times and netted 26 times in the span of 20 years.Gudhjonsen launched his coaching career after retirement and took charge of the national team in December 2020, working as the assistant coach.Gudjohnsen playing for Barca, Iceland and Chelsea (©Gallo images)This year, his two sons, Sveinn Aron Gudjohnsen, 23, and Andri Lucas Gudjohnsen, 19, both made a debut for Iceland. Of course, like their dad and grandpa, they are both forwards.19-year-old Real Madrid forward Andri Gudjohnsen, the son of Eidur, has scored his first senior international goal for Iceland against North Macedonia! 🇮🇸 pic.twitter.com/sIbZE581l6— Football Talent Scout – Jacek Kulig (@FTalentScout) September 5, 2021 Last Thursday, the latter played for the first time in a 2-0 home loss to Romania but made history last night, scoring his maiden goal after only two minutes on the pitch against North Macedonia. The game ended in a stalemate (2-2), but it was an extraordinary moment for the Gudjohnsen dynasty, which continues its everlasting domination embellished with many goals, achievements and heirs.##NAJAVA_MECA_5799870##Bearing in mind the fact Andri Lucas is a future Real Madrid star, it seems like Queen Elisabeth’s record is about to be broken by Gudjohnsens in years to come.Last night, Andri Lucas Guðjohnsen made his Iceland debut and was ushered onto the pitch by his legendary father Eiður Guðjohnsen, who in turn is the son of renowned Icelandic footballer Arnór Guðjohnsen.
