That loss helped us see the gaps in our team and defence was our main undoing. In the final we made adjustments and everything else worked for that win. We have our work cut out as, despite the win we had a few slip-ups on defence and finishing and that needs to be worked on,” said Nyamunyamuh in an interview. The tactician says the team is likely to make a few more additions to achieve the depth needed to be competitive at the continental level. Coming into the qualifiers, Vihiga ropped in the league’s top scorer Violet Nanjala from Trans Nzoia Falcons and she proved instrumental in the team’s qualification. “We have to add on to the personnel we have while maintaining the current squad. All the departments are working fine and for now, we are not specific on the positions that need reinforcement. Getting back-up utility players will serve us well,” added the assistant coach further stating that he is in Vihiga Queens to stay. In the lead-up to the qualifiers, long-serving head coach Alex Alumira, who has guided the team to their three national league titles, left the side leaving Nyamunyamuh in charge while Okere was brought in last minute. Eight teams are through to the final tournament. The zone with the hosts will produce two teams for the maiden edition but one in future editions of the event. Each of the Six CAF Zones have qualified one team. However, for subsequent editions, the host country will have only one representative whilst the Zonal Union of the defending champion will qualify two teams.##EDITORS_CHOICE##
