South Africa wants to host FIFA Club World Cup despite 80.000 dead from Covid-19

Japan has hosted Olympic games in 2021 and they’ve had enough – they dropped their commitment to host the 2021 Fifa Club World Cup in December this year, following Covid-19 pandemic they encountered during the Games and all the negativity from the public. And now, South Africa will bid to be the host of the tournament. SA Football Association president Danny Jordaan has now confirmed to AP that the Southern African country is interested in hosting the Club World Cup, and will talk with FIFA secretary general Fatma Samoura in Nigeria to discuss the bid. Jordaan will also meet president Infantino and Patrice Motsepe – the president of the Confederation of African Football (Caf).Four veteran candidates for a vacant position of the Black Stars coachIt is interesting, however that Jordaan hasn’t yet talked to any officials from the South Africa government, and without their approval, no tournament can’t take place. Also, on a day in which Jordaan announced South Africa’s desire to organize the tournament, the British Government has put this country on Covid red list. This means that anyone travelling to South Africa from England would have to quarantine for 10 days upon their return to the United Kingdom, which could heavily impact Safa’s hopes of hosting the event. The lucky thing is that UK is revising their red list every ten days, which means SA has more than enough time to improve it’s position, which means that Champions League winners Chelsea could participate.Ex-Gor Mahia coach sacked in ZimbabweThe Club World Cup is a seven-team tournament that features six continental champions and the host nation’s league champions, which means that contesters would be Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), Chelsea(Europe), Egypitan Al Ahly (winners of the Caf Champions League trophy), and others. South Africa’s FA (Safa) is confident the country can sufficiently suppress its number of Covid-19 infections in time to host Fifa’s Club World Cup later this year.”Everything will be under control by December – things are looking very positive. If you go through our numbers, they are really declining. Most of the variants are on a massive decline and we are on a massive vaccination drive. It has reached an advance stage in the sense that the Safa president is going to meet with Infantino, Samoura and Motsepe to present the sensibility of South Africa hosting this historic event. We’ve asked all the 2010 World Cup hosts to see what they can offer, and the response has been overwhelming. All the stadiums are keen to host games” Safa Communications Director Dominic Chimhavi told BBC Sport Africa.22:00 (1.27) Chelsea (6,75) Zenit (11.0)Over 80,000 people have died with Covid in South Africa, more than any other African country, but after a mid-year surge September has seen a fall in infections. Saudi Arabia is understood to also be interested in staging a tournament whose plans to expand to 24 teams have been delayed by the pandemic.
