Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Women’s Cup makes a return this weekend with four quarter final matches in the offing. The preliminary stages of the inaugural Women’s Cup were concluded in February before sporting activities were suspended due to Covid-19. When action resumed, the federation elected to continue with the regular league and eventually the playoffs for the Wimen Premier League and the Division leagues, shelving the Cup matches for later. (@mjumbeatenya) March 26, 2021 Close to three months after the regular league and playoffs concluded, eight teams, seven in the premier league and one in division one clash for a chance to get to the top four. Zone A sided Ulinzi Starlets who were eliminated in the playoff quarters take on Zetech Sparks who finished fifth in the zone A during the regular league to miss out on the playoffs that were admitting the top three teams in each zone. The varsity side finished ten points behind the military women on 18, a point behind fourth-place Kayole Starlets. “This is a Cup and at the end of the match we have to get a winner. It calls for a different approach compared to the league matches but we have prepared well. It will be a tough match no doubt as Ulinzi is a very experienced side. We have played some friendlies in preparation with one being against Vihiga Queensas they were preparing for the CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Zonal qualifiers and my players did well. The girls are raring to go. We have worked on our tactical movement. Expect explosion and fireworks,” said Zetech head coach Bernard Kitolo adding that he has his full squad up for selection. We have only played once against Vihiga Queens since the playoff quarters. The players have over-trained and there are concerns of match fitness but that is a problem that all the teams but for Vihiga will have in these matches. We are going in for a win regardless,” said Ulinzi head coach Joseph Mwanza.
