As the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Women’s Cup resumes this weekend, three-time Women Premier League (WPL) champions Vihiga Queens are looking to stamp their authority over Bunyore Starlets for a last-four ticket when the two teams square it out in Luanda on Sunday afternoon. Having missed out on their fourth consecutive league title, crashing out to Gaspo Women in the playoff semis Vihiga, under the tutelage of Boniface Nyamunyamuh are keen to make amends and lift the Cup.The team, fresh from winning the CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Zonal qualifiers to book a ticket to the inaugural event set for November in Egypt, carry that form to the national Cup matches and are the favorites against the Division one side “Our game plan is to approach this encounter like we would any other matches with top teams. Bunyore is a good side and we have to be intentional in the way we play against them. This is a knockout encounter and we have to play for a win,” said the tactician, who until the exit of coach Alex Alumira served as the team’s assistant coach. The side will miss the services of three key players in the clash. Sibling duo of team’s top scorer Terry Engesha and her sister, defender Robai Kebedi are bereaved and will be laying a loved one to rest on the same day of action. Kitolo promises fireworks as Zetech face Ulinzi in FKF Cup quartersAdditionally, the team’s midfield will be without Ugandan international Joan Nabriye who has since joined her national team that is preparing for the COSAFA championships. “The three are an integral part of this squad but I do not think we will miss them. Partly because we have depth but most importantly because we are looking at making a few changes in the squad that lines up against Bunyore. We will rest some of the players who did duty at the CECAFA qualifiers to pave way for those who did not get a chance to play,” Nyamunyamuh explained. Also missing in the tactician’s plans is Violet Nanjala, who joined the side in in lead up to the Champions League qualifiers, as the Cup Tie rules does not allow her to play gor Vihiga, seeing as she already played for her immediate former employer Trans Nzoia Falcons in the same Cup. The team left Nairobi on Monday after the conclusion of the CECAFA championship and git back to training on Wednesday. The coach maintains that they squad has had enough rest and are ready for action. “We are up against a good side. Bunyore is home to some of our former players including goalkeeper Sheila Shabuya and Susan Muhonja among others. They will not be easy to handle,” he concluded. ##EDITORS_CHOICE##
