Gor Mahia midfielder out to fight for his place

Gor Mahia combative midfielder John Ochieng’ is keen on cementing a place at Gor Mahia in the coming season after featuring minimally in the previous season. The defensive midfielder revealed to Mozzart Sport that he had offers from multiple top-tier clubs but he felt that his work at K’Ogalo was not done and decided to stay at the club. With Ernest Wendo and Alpha Onyango being the most preferred for the number 6 and 8 roles for the better part of last season, Ochieng had limited playing time but when he got the chance to play he did so in a meticulous and combative nature.Gor Mahia had a torrid performance last season and finished 8th with 45 points, their worst ever finish since a ninth-place finish in 2008 where they gathered only 39 points from a 16-team league.”I had offers to move but I felt I did not have enough playing time at Gor Mahia to show what I can do. I am here to stay and help the club win trophies in the coming season as I add more experience. From there, I will see what will be good for me and the team. My focus is on helping Gor Mahia get back to where it belongs,” Ochieng’ said.Gor Mahia midfielder John Ochieng is actually a decent midfielder. I just hope he stops breaking opponents’ ankles.— Ole Teya (@Kevin_teya) August 18, 2021 The former Chemelil FC player is having his eyes fixed on the Super Cup pitting Gor Mahia and Tusker on Wednesday which will act as a curtain-raiser to the FKF Premier League, with an aim of helping K’Ogalo start the season on a high.Despite the competition in the team, Ochieng’ is poised to learn and progress at K’Ogalo, and with a new head coach whom he featured for towards the end of the season, playing spots are up for grab.”The competition is tight but I want to learn and progress here. We are starting our season against Tusker on Wednesday in the cup and I am hoping that I can play a part in ensuring that we start it perfectly, and with a cup for that matter. I am aiming higher and training hard so that I can better myself and help better the team. We started our pre-season training late due to some in-house challenges but we have picked up so well. We will do our best to maintain the rhythm we are getting into, and even better it,” he added.##EDITORS_CHOICE##Gor Mahia,s opponents in the Super Cup, Tusker, have already played two competitive games in the CAF Champions League preliminary qualifying round and are in a good shape in addition to adding quality to the team through their signings.
