Football Kenya Federation’s (FKF) Women’s Cup inaugural champion will be crowned on Saturday 2 October when the final match, initially scheduled for 25 September, is set to be played. The final had to be rescheduled owing to a Women Under 20 World Cup qualifier where Kenya will be hosting Uganda on Saturday September 25 in Nairobi. The semifinals are set for Thursday 23 September in Kisumu and Nairobi. Women Premier League (WPL) side Ulinzi Starlets travel away to Kisumu All Starlets for the first semi set to be played at Moi Stadium at 2 PM while Vihiga Queens have a trip to Nairobi where they take on Gaspo Women at Ruaraka on the same day. The two matches kick off simultaneously. To qualify for the semis, Kisumu had dispensed Wadadia 3-7 in away territory in the match played at the Mumias Sports Complex. A sensational performance by the Kisumu based side saw Monica Etot score a remarkable four goals as Pauline Niase also grabbed her hat trick. “We remain focused just like we did in the quarters against Wadadia. We came from two goals down in that match to win 7-3 away. We have home advantage in the semis and all the players are up for selection. We are going for a win, nothing less,” said Kisumu head coach Said. His opposite number, Joseph Mwanza guides his charges to their first semifinal after making their debut in the top-tier league, having lost in the quarters in the league playoffs, and believes they have what it takes to go all the way. Ulinzi left it late to qualify for the semis, beating Zetech Sparks 3-2 thanks to a Neddy Atieno brace in the second half that overturned a 2-1 Zetech lead in the first half. Goals from Ulinzi’s Lucy Mukwana and one apiece for Zetech duo of Winnie Gwatenda and Elizabeth Wanyonyi had given the varsity side the lead in the first 45 minutes.##EDITORS_CHOICE##
