Women Premier League (WPL) losing finalists Gaspo Women stare at disqualification the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Women’s Cup after Kayole Starlets launched a protest during the sides’ quarterfinal match.Kayole accuse Gaspo of fielding an ineligible player, Iddah Odhiambo who joined Gaspo’s ranks during the mid-season transfer window from Kibera Girls Soccer. She had already featured for the zone A Kibera-based side in the rounds of 32 and 16 and was therefore ineligible to play for Gaspo in the same Cup competition.“We noticed the player was in the list of players set to play before the match kicked off and we protested, in writing, and the letter was presented to the fourth official and signed by the match commissioner. It is only fair that we are given a fair hearing before the semis are played on Thursday, 23 September,” said Kayole Starlets’ head coach Joshua Sakwa. However, FKF head of leagues and competitions Frank Ogola on Tuesday 21 September claimed that his department was yet to receive Kayole Starlet’s complaint letter and the match reports, where the protest letter is supposed to be attached, were yet to reach his office as they are submitted within 48 hours of the matches.Kisumu ready for Ulinzi as FKF Women’s Cup semi dates are setMeanwhile, Gaspo head coach Ayub Inziani, while admitting to fielding the players says he was not made aware that the player was ineligible to feature.“I joined the team in the second leg of the season and by then she was already in the team. I was not aware that she had already featured for another team and it was not brought to my attention,” said the tactician adding that he was hoping for the impasse to be resolved soon.Gaspo had beaten Kayole 5-3, the match having been decided on post-match penalties after a one-all draw, to book a place in the semis where they are set to play three-time WPL champions Vihiga Queens.
