Marco Asensio could give Carlo Ancelotti his first real problem upon Real Madrid return

Spanish attacking midfielder Marco Asensio had a tempting offer to leave Real Madrid a few months ago. AC Milan and Tottenham Hotspur wanted to make the 25-year-old Spaniard their marquee signing of the previous transfer window. However, Asensio decided to remain at Real Madrid, boosted by the new boss’ plans of using him regularly in his system. The midfielder heard what he needed to hear.”I had a small chat with Carlo and he said positive things to me. He said good things and I know I can learn a lot from what he can teach me, as he has a lot of experience.”🇪🇸 Marco Asensio is unhappy with the play-time he’s been given by Ancelotti after the manager told him that he’ll be important this season. Marco’s at 100% and if Carlo keeps leaving him out of the team, the player’s representatives will talk to the manager. @ellarguero pic.twitter.com/RgPH0VhNLN— Infinite Madrid (@InfiniteMadrid) September 21, 2021 But now, with the end of September approaching, Asensio is no more than a fringe player for Los Blancos. To say he’s annoyed would be an understatement. The last three games have done little more than further highlight his freefall. He played 11 minutes against Celta Vigo, one against Inter and not a second against Valencia, totalling 12 minutes in a particularly tough week.Tuesday, 21.45: (2.75) Fulham (3.35) Leeds (2.55)It doesn’t look likely that Asensio’s situation is going to change in the short term, as he has Karim Benzema, Eden Hazard, Vinicius, Gareth Bale, Rodrygo and even Lucas Vazquez all ahead of him. At the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, Ancelotti even turned to forgotten man Luka Jovic to bring into play off the bench – while Asensio remained seated.Ancelotti hasn’t been able to accommodate the Spaniard and Eduardo Camavinga and Isco are both ahead of him in the pecking order further back, when the Italian wants a bit of creativity from his midfield three. It’s reported that Asensio didn’t have a good idea of where he would stand in Ancelotti’s plans over the course of the summer, and so he decided not to pursue any of the offers.##EDITORS_CHOICE##The Spanish international is not blaming anyone for the situation, but it’s said that he wants to know where he stands in the next week or so, and if he is not going to get opportunities, he is likely to speak to other clubs ahead of the January transfer window. The 25-year-old has played just 68 minutes of football so far this season. Ancelotti will have a chance to defuse the situation when his team faces Real Mallorca on Wednesday at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.LA LIGA – Round 6Tuesday20.30: (5.40) Getafe (3.40) Atl.Madrid (1.75)23.00: (2.65) Levante (3.25) Celta (2.70)23.00: (1.95) Ath.Bilbao (3.35) Rayo Vallecano (4.20)Wednesday20.30: (1.70) Sevilla (3.60) Valencia (5.30)20.30: (1.90) Espanyol (3.40) Alaves (4.30)23.00: (1.27) Real Madrid (6.00) Mallorca (10.0)23.00: (1.55) Villareal (3.80) Elche (7.00)Thursday20.30: (2.50) Osasuna (3.20) Betis (2.95)20.30: (3.80) Granada (3.45) Sociedad (2.00)23.00: (5.70) Cadiz (4.00) Barcelona (1.60)***odds are subject to change
