Shujaa duo make Vancouver 7s dream team

Kenya 7s duo of Alvin ‘Buffa’ Otieno and Jeff Oluoch fended off challenge in a 14-man star studded list as they made the Vancouver Sevens dream team announced on Wednesday.Up against opposition from Irirsh and Great Britain players, the two Shujaa forwards earned their position alongside 2021 Vancouver Champions South Africa , who dominated the list with four players and and a solo USA player. In Kenya’s impressive run to the finals where they lost 5-38, Buffa proved invaluable to the team as he touched down seven times for Shujaa – the tournament’s second highest tries scored over that weekend. Only South Africa’s sensational talent Angelo Davids, who also made the team, beat Buffa with his record breaking ten tries in a single tournament. On top of the tries contribution, Buffa had the third best clean breaks in the tournament with seven breaks.Although an unfortunate shoulder injury forced Oluoch to come out of the finals after less than two minutes into the match, Oluoch joined Buffa in the dream team with his highest carries in the tournament helping Kenya to a second place finish in the first Series outing. Here’s your HSBC Dream Team from Vancouver – as voted for by you!🇿🇦 – 4🇰🇪 – 2🇺🇸 – 1#HSBC7s | @HSBC_Sport pic.twitter.com/unQADU3JE5— World Rugby Sevens (@WorldRugby7s) September 21, 2021 For the first time in HSBC Rugby Sevens History, fans were given the mandate of choosing the Dream Team made up of three forwards and four backs.Joining the Kenyan duo in Canada was South African quadruple of Davids, Ryan OOsthuizen, Dewald Human and Ronald Brown.Besides not making the Dream Team, Shujaa’s Daniel Taabu was named the most impactful player at the tournament after a series of eye catching displays.Like he’d never been away…Kenya’s Daniel Taabu hit the ground running – and then some – at the Vancouver Sevens with a series of awesome performances@DHLRugby #ImpactPlayer pic.twitter.com/iJE4DOzYAU— World Rugby Sevens (@WorldRugby7s) September 20, 2021 Shujaa now shift focus to the last leg of the 2021 series that takes place in Edmonton, Canada on 25th and 26th September.
