FKF Women’s Cup: Kayole Starlets storm semis, Gaspo disqualified

Kayole Starlets are into the semifinal of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Women’s Cup following a successful complaint that saw Gaspo Women disqualified for fielding an ineligible player.Gaspo had beaten Kayole 5-3, on post-match penalties after a one-all draw, to book a place in the semis where they are set to play the three-time WPL champions.Kayole accused Gaspo of fielding an ineligible player in Iddah Odhiambo who joined the team in the mid-season transfer window from Kibera Girls Soccer but had already featured for the zone A Kibera-based side in the rounds of 32 and 16.FT : Gaspo Women Football Club 1 – 1 Kayole Starlets Fc Est.2008.Post match penalties Gaspo Women Football Club 4 – 2 Kayole Starlets Fc Est.2008.Rolling Cargo is the official sponsor of Kayole Starlets Fc Est.2008#yeswecan#rollingcargo#letherplay pic.twitter.com/CUyaPi5zhE— Kayole Starlets Fc Est.2008 (@KayoleEst) September 20, 2021 FKF Competitions Department confirmed that indeed the player had featured for Kibera Girls in the said stages, adding that they were in possession of match officials’ reports on the same from all matches involved.By virtue of having featured in the same competition in the earlier stages, Odhiambo was therefore ineligible to play for Gaspo in the same Cup competition according to a letter addressed to Gaspo by the FKF Competitions department.”Following the aforesaid, it’s evident that your club has violated Art. 8.9 of the FKF Women’s Cup Regulations which states; “During the same year, a player is in principle eligible to play for one and the same club in the FKF Women’s Cup. However, a player even though registered on the list of a club and has not been fielded in any match will be eligible to play for another participating club in the FKF Women’s Cup in the same year so long as all the regulations pertaining to transfers are complied with.”Guided by Art. 8.7 of the same regulations, we hereby wish to inform you that your club has forfeited the match, the same has been awarded to Kayole Starlet FC who shall progress to the next round of the competition,” part of the letter read.In their complaint to the FKF Competitions department, Starlets affirmed that they noticed the player and protested the same in writing to the officials.“We noticed the player was in the list of players set to play before the match kicked off and we protested, in writing, and the letter was presented to the fourth official and signed by the match commissioner,” read part of the complaint.Thursday 23 September semifinals Kisumu AllStarlets vs Ulinzi Starlets – Moi Stadium, Kisumu – 2 PM EATKayole Starlets vs Vihiga Queens – Ruaraka, Nairobi – 2 PM EAT
