Unstoppable Napoli reach their fifth win in a row to sit alone on the top of the Serie A

The last time they were that good, the late Diego Armando Maradona was the leader of the squad. The Napoles-based outfit was far from the top of the Serie A table ever since – and it had been a long 30 years ago.But things are starting to change as we speak. Led by illustrious Lorenzo Insignie, Napoli thrashed Sampdoria 4-0 on their soil, reaching their fifth consecutive win. Five out of five, a perfect start that sent them straight to the top of the table, as the only team with 15 points.

The man of the match was definitely a Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, who banged in a brace, while Insignie recorded two assists. The two of them were unplayable and remained a mystery for the home defence, which struggled not to succumb to abysmal after conceding three before the 60th minute.

The following two fixtures, a home game against Cagliari and a visit to Fiorentina, should keep them on top and promote Napoli as the leading contender for the championship title. The first one for them since 1990.SERIE A – ROUND 5TuesdayBologna – Genoa 2-2 (0-0)/Hickey 49, Arnautovic pen 85 – Destro 55, Criscito pen 89/Atalanta – Sasuolo 2-1 (2-1)/Gosens 3, Zappacosta 37 – Berardi 44/Fiorentina – Inter 1-3 (1-0)/Sottil 23 – Darmian 52, Dzeko 55, Perisic 87/WednesdaySpezia – Juventus 2-3 (1-1)/Gyasi 33, Antiste 49 – Kean 28, Chiesa 66, De Ligt 72/Cagliari – Empoli 0-2 (0-1)/Di Francesco 29, Stulac 69/Milan – Venezia 2-0 (0-0)/Diaz 68, Hernandez 82/ThursdaySampdoria Napoli 0-4 (0-2)/Osimhen 10, 50, Ruiz 39, Zielinski 59/Torino – Lazio 1-1 (0-0)/Pjaca 76 – Immobile 90/21.45: (1.55) Roma (4.10) Udinese (6.00)
