It was not a high-pressure game so our plan worked and the execution was good. However, we know the final will not be as easy and we have to be prepared. We go back to training well aware that we are up against a tough opponent and have just a week to prepare. We are hungry for a local trophy, having missed the league title and this is it,” said Vihiga head coach Boniface Nyamunyamuh. Vihiga, who were the favourites going into the semis started the match on a high. Janet Bundi wasted no time in showing who was boss between the two sides as she volleyed the opener in the second minute off of a Maureen Achieng assist inside the box. Kayole had a chance to level the score in the 15th minute. Skipper Ivy Omondi, with a chance to shoot from outside the box elected to play the ball to Patricia Anyango on the right flank but she was caught offside denying the Jackline Juma-coached side a chance to equalise. In the 22nd minute, Terry Engesha was brought down in the box, the referee pointing to the spot for a penalty that was effectively converted by the lethal left-legged Gentrix Shikangwa. Kayole stepped up their defence forcing Vihiga to result in attempts from outside the box. Phelistus Kadari came close to bagging Vihiga’s third with a long-range from the right-wing but her effort was gathered by the Kayole shot-stopper with ease. Magical Jentrix Shikangwa!!https://t.co/uZGOLLOWDt#HarambeeStarlets #Tunaweza— Harambee Starlets (@StarletsKE) September 9, 2021 In the added minute of the first half, Achieng scored what would have been Vihiga’s third in the final action of the period but was adjudged to have been offside. The match headed to the breather with Nyamunyamuh’s charges holding the two-goal advantage. Bundi was at it again in the second half, using her speed to beat the on-rushing Kayole custodian and chip the ball over her and into the net for Vihiga’s third. Kayole could not match Vihiga’s excellence on goal.Meanwhile, Ulinzi Starlets picked a 4-2 win away to Kisumu All Starlets thanks to a Neddy Atieno hattrick with Siliya Rasoha scoring the fourth goal for the military side.
