George Midenyo has left his role as the Mathare United assistant coach and new coach Ezekiel Akwana will have to get another assistant coach to work with as the 2021/2022 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) commences on Saturday afternoon.The former Harambee Stars forward returned to Mathare in May as an assistant coach. He worked with the then coach Frank Ouna and the pair managed to help the Slum Boys avoid what looked like an inevitable relegation from the top tier, at the end of the season they finished in position 15 thereby securing another season in the FKFPL.Coach Ouna has since left for Musanze FC of Rwanda where is currently the head coach. Akwana, who was part of his backroom staff without a specified role has now taken over as head coach, Sacchi as he is famously referred to is a Mathare United legend. Coach Akwana will soon name his new assistant coach who will help him steer the team forward,” a senior source from the Slum Boys’ camp told Mozzart Sport.Mathare have not been busy during the off-season transfer window with everything pointing at coach Akwana, a known grassroots coach going for less-known talents. They begin their campaign away in Mombasa against Bandari FC on Saturday afternoon. The match will kick off at 3 PM.
