FKF Premier League takes eighteen-day break after just one round of games

The 2021/2022 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) campaign is set for an eighteen-day break after just one round of matches played in the new season. In fixtures released by the country’s football governing body for matchday 2, the league is expected to resume on Friday, 15th October with two fixtures taking centre stage on that day.The league takes a 20-day break, we will be back in action on 17th October against Kakamega Homeboyz.#Wazito4life pic.twitter.com/Ko0ifts77I— Wazito Football Club (@wazitofc) September 27, 2021 With new Harambee Stars head coach Engin Firat needing time to prepare the squad for the upcoming Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, the break-in play has presumably been occasioned by the upcoming international break where Kenya is scheduled to travel away to take on Mali in back to back fixtures with the first leg taking place around 6-7 October and the return leg a week later.Firat was appointed on a two-month contract and his first assignment will be the Mali away game. Currently, Kenya sit second in Group E on two points behind Mali who top the group with four points after two matches played.Matchday II is done and dusted, and here is how it stands 👇Up next, in October, are back-to-back ties against table toppers Mali.#Tunaweza pic.twitter.com/DjjZ9h4T8e— Harambee Stars (@Harambee__Stars) September 6, 2021 This past weekend, the new season got underway with all eighteen teams taking part in the nine matches played across different venues in the country. After matchday 1, it is coastal side Bandari FC who made a flying start as they recorded a comfortable 3-0 win over last season survivors Mathare United to finish the weekend at the top of the table.⚽| All Matchday 1 Results#FKFPL pic.twitter.com/rfhx5ZU005— FKF Premier League (@Officialfkfpl) September 26, 2021 After a disappointing 2020/2021 season, record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia, as well as perennial rivals AFC Leopards, also got off to the perfect start as they recorded impressive victories against last season’s runners up KCB and reigning champions Tusker respectively.
