Were, Ian Otieno seeking redemption after indiscipline case

Kenyan internationals Jese Were and Ian Otieno will be hoping for a return to the Zesco United matchday squad after missing the shocking 2-0 defeat to Kafue Celtic last time out. Were and Otieno were surprise omissions from the squad with early indications pointing to squad rotation as Zesco faced the newly-promoted side.Head coach Numba Mumamba revealed that Otieno and Were missed the deflating defeat to Kafue Celtic as duo were not ‘looking after themselves well’.“We left the two guys due to discipline issues otherwise they are both fine. Discipline is very key to everyone. I think when we have a backlog of games everyone must be at their best in terms of behaviour,”“That’s why we left the other two guys because they were not looking after themselves very well. We decided to leave them out so that we instil discipline in the team,” Mumamba added.Zesco United will be seeking to bounce back to winning ways when they take on Kansanshi Dynamos on Saturday 2 October to put their title defense back on track. Ian Otieno has been called into the Harambee Stars squad that is set to take on Mali in back to back 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup qualifiers and will link up with the team next week.In the clash, Otieno was replaced by third-choice goalkeeper Samson Banda while veteran forward Winstone Kalengo was installed in place Were but the changes ultimately affected Zesco.
