Gor Mahia midfielder John Ochieng’ is not letting injuries take him down in the new season as it happened at the start of the previous one.Just like at the start of the previous season, Ochieng’ picked up an ankle injury in a preseason-friendly game that kept him out of the team until March, then the suspension of sporting activities in the country happened, further locking him out until May.Though he picked the injury during a friendly, the midfielder managed to play in the first half of the FKF Super Cup but was withdrawn later.Speaking to Mozzart Sport, the former Chemelil Sugar defender revealed that he is just about two weeks away from a return and is looking forward to featuring again for K’Ogalo.”I sprained my ankle in a preseason friendly. At first, it was not that bad but during the FKF Super Cup game against Tusker that is when I felt it more and had to come off. However, I am on the road to recovery and I believe that in the next two weeks I will be back to training in anticipation for selection,” Ochieng’ said.Ochieng’ went on to reveal that injury periods can be the lowest moments for footballers, adding that a strong mind is important to ensure that one gets to bounce back from an injury he is cleared by the doctor.Though he missed their opening match against KCB this season, Champe, as he is fondly referred to is looking forward to getting back.”Injuries are part of football but again one must not allow them to take him down. It is a period when one has to be very strong mentally to be able to regain the physical strength needed much later. I started last season with an injury and it felt really bad. While new at a club, you want to hit the ground running and cement a place for yourself, not start a season sidelined with injury. This season again I missed the first game with injury but I am very eager to get back and offer what I can offer to the club,” he added.Gor Mahia midfielder John Ochieng is actually a decent midfielder. I just hope he stops breaking opponents’ ankles.— Ole Teya (@Kevin_teya) August 18, 2021 He still maintains that K’Ogalo’s aim this season is to go for the trophy, insisting that he will play his role to the fullest when required by coach Mark Harrison.”The aim this season for Gor remains to get back to our usual performance and to go for the title because as I always say, Gor deserves to only be fighting for the title not fighting to survive in the league and I will play my role in ensuring that is in place once I am ready and called upon,” he finished.
