A highly anticipated lightweight title fight Teofimo Lopez vs George Kambosos Jr has been picked up by Matchroom Boxing for a new date. Triller, that was in charge to host the showdown, ultimately gave it up earlier this week.
While Lopez vs Kambosos new date, as well as the location, is yet to be determined, live and exclusive broadcast has been confirmed on DAZN.
“Delighted to confirm that Matchroom Boxing will be promoting the big Teofimo Lopez vs George Kambosos Jr unified [lightweight] match up live on DAZN,” Eddie Hearn posted on Twitter. “Date and venue [will be] announced shortly. Let’s get this show on the road.”
The fight was initially booked for June 5. It was then postponed and rescheduled multiple times due to numerous issues.
October 16, that turned to be the final date offered by Triller, didn’t go ahead. The parties didn’t come to the financial agreement, forcing the social media platform to withdraw after spending nearly $10 mil in “promotional dollars”.
According to reports, Triller won the rights to promote the fight with $6,018,000 bid. Matchroom Boxing came in second offering $3,506,000. Top Rank was the third with $2,315,000.
After Triller stepped aside, which seemed to put a halt to the fight, Matchroom Boxing stepped in and picked it up.
While every weekend next month is already booked out, which includes Canelo Alvarez vs Caleb Plant and Terence Crawford vs Shawn Porter, November 27 potentially has a chance to become a new date for Teofimo Lopez vs George Kambosos Jr.
Meanwhile, Triller goes ahead with the boxing card on October 16 live on FITE TV.
