Wanyama tops Kenyan Players Ratings in FIFA 21Prior to the release of FIFA 22 in October, I had highlighted the FIFA 21 ratings for Kenyan players. Now that 22’s out, we’ll look at the latest rankings. Before that however, there are a few things to note. To start with, some players may be labeled as or claim to be Kenyan but getting them to actually play for the country can be a delicate balancing act. For some, the culture change can be too much of a shock so the coach may be needed to slowly ease them in. A few more are just looking for quick publicity with press and social media releases but are not yet ready to play for Kenya.Others such as Bruce Kamau, who also holds Australian citizenship, may not be too keen to pledge their allegiance to the motherland. In his case, despite Harambee stars making public overtures over many years, the dalliance has not been reciprocated because he is holding out for the Socceroos. He’ll have to make a decision soon however. Because at 26, he’s yet to receive a senior call-up to Australia’s national team. Kenya, in contrast, has regarded the midfielder good enough to don the national colors since he was 20.

Former Harambee stars coach Francis Kimanzi actually touched on this in a press briefing. This is what he had to say. “Sesay is a decent player. He is a young and right back and winger. We also have Phillip (Mwene) and Daniel (Anyembe) who is playing in Denmark who have Kenyan roots and can play on the right side of defense.””My experience with these players (of Kenyan descent) is that normally they confirm their availability for national team duty in the media but when we call them up officially, they don’t respond. So if Sesay is now available, we will give him a chance.”In a twist though, after saying “I will 100 per cent accept the call up from Kenya,” Sesay, the player who was the basis of that press conference, has since played for Sierra Leone in friendly matches recently. Sesay excited to represent Sierra Leone after snubbing Harambee StarsWanyama is still the highest ranked Kenyan player in FIFA 22 but his tally has been reduced by a whopping 11 points to 75. The best player in the video game is Messi, rated at 93, while Mane makes the top 22 list with an 89 overall tally.
