Nani: ‘Sir Alex Ferguson allowed players to arrive at training drunk’

Legendary Sir Alex Ferguson has many qualities (and a few flaws), and among them are the ones which are essencial for every top manager out there: ability to manage all characters, all different ages, all different personalities. Many of his former players revealed throughout the years different stories about the legendary Manchester United coach which confirmed his abilty to deal with players, and former Red Devil Nani revealed that during big holidays, sir Alex allowed his players to relax.Does Pogba deserve what he is allegedly asking for – half-a-million USD per-week?Unlike for example Arsene Wenger, who was very strict with his alcohol bans, the Scotsman thought that players need to relax sometimes, and since the Premier League is famous for it’s tough schedule around Christmas and New Year, Ferguson was very loose with rules in those days. „On New Year’s Eve we could also come to training drunk and Sir Alex didn’t care. That was part of his charm, he knew how to interact with his players, and he understood that that day was special, it didn’t make sense to scold us for that“ Nani told Tribuna Expresso. (3.60) LEICESTER (3.50) MANCHESTER UNITED (2.15)Nani played for United for eight years (2007-2015), netting 40 goals in 230 first-team appearances for the club – winning four Premier League titles and the Champions League trophy in 2008. Now a Orlando City player, the Portuguese says he never had any disciplinary problems at United, even thou he admits he liked the night life. “I have never had any problems. I used to go out at night at the right times, for example when the next day we had the day off. Then we could have fun. Or on special days, like Christmas or at New Years – in England nobody cares whatever you do that night. I don’t want to deny it, I liked going out at night. But now I avoid doing it because to play at the highest level you have to give up this lifestyle and understand when the time is right to have fun” said the 34-year old.
