Cheche pays homage to Mathare United after joining Posta Rangers

Experienced former Harambee Stars defender David ‘Cheche’ Ochieng has conveyed his deepest gratitude to top tier side Mathare United after the defender made the switch to opponents Posta Rangers in the currently open transfer window that led into the 2021/2022 Football Kenya Federation Premier league season.Back in 2020, after the novel coronavirus pandemic had ravaged practically the whole world, Cheche returned home a free agent from Saudi Arabian outfit Al Ansar when all sides had almost completed their signings with the then 2020/2021 season on the horizon.✍️🏿| Well well well…. look at what we have here 😍Kenyan international @OchiengCheche has joined us on a one-year deal from Saudi Arabian side Al Ansar.Excited to have you onboard Cheche 😀Karibu sana Mathare🥳#GreatnessWithin #MUFC #FKFPLTransfers pic.twitter.com/JCnuO7tRzB— Mathare United FC (@MathareUtd) November 6, 2020 With seemingly not many options left, the slum boys snapped him up on a year deal and offered him a home when it became clear that the pandemic would not make it easy for the defender to jet out of the country.“I settled on Mathare because by the time I decided to come back here, most of the teams had already signed enough quality players and Mathare were not yet done with their signings. At the time, Covid-19 had ravaged all around the world and most of the countries outside had put me on hold. By the time they were done with their decisions, the only team that was still available was Mathare United,” the defender said.THANK YOU!! @MathareUtd pic.twitter.com/OGIobz3RY3— David Cheche (@OchiengCheche) October 14, 2021 After enduring a turbulent spell that saw the team almost get relegated to the second tier National Super League (NSL), Cheche and the entire playing unit, under the guidance of head coach Frank Ouna, managed to pull one of the miraculous escapes as they maintained their top flight status. However, after just one season, the defender chose not to extend with the team as he joined Stanley Okumbi’s Posta. After departing, the defender paid homage to his previous home as he wished them all the very best in the new season.“Thank you Mathare United FC! To the boys who knew what we went through on and off the field, but the team survived. Sometimes the sweat and blood that we work for everyday might not be rewarded but God will always be God. All the best in this New season, respect and love from me,” the defender said.
