Tusker FC right back Wellington Ochieng’ has expressed his extreme delight at making his comeback from injury after undergoing a dreaded cartilage and meniscus double surgery that successfully ruled him out of football contention for four months. After joining Tusker at the start of the 2020/2021 Football Kenya Federation Premier League from rivals Gor Mahia, Ochieng was forced to sit out of action after picking up an injury midway through the campaign. To add salt to injury, the right-back got involved in a road accident that further hampered his chances of getting back to the pitch.💪| Our defender Wellington Ochieng stepping up his rehabilitation after MCL surgery.🏋️| Jawaya energy #KenyaMilele #Brewers4Life pic.twitter.com/xOuUnoGRQ6— 🏆Tusker FC (@tusker_fc) August 11, 2021 However, since putting the injury woes behind him now as he returned to full team during the October international break, Ochieng detailed how hard it was making the return to action during those four months.“It has been good but it really needed a lot in terms of sacrifice, time and mentality in order for me to make that comeback. It was not easy because it was a cartilage and meniscus injury at the same time. But I am just happy to have made the comeback and really thankful for the medical staff and the team who have all been supportive and made it a bit easier in these four months. I just had to accept the situation and give it time,” the defender told Mozzart Sport.😍| Wellington Ochieng back in full training.#KenyaMilele #Brewers4Life pic.twitter.com/bMZppK6AeE— 🏆Tusker FC (@tusker_fc) October 12, 2021 Despite being injured, Ochieng was not among the mass exodus that was witnessed when Tusker invested heavily after getting continental football for a first time in four years, the defender welcoming the competition as he promised to work even harder to compete with compatriots Kevin Monyi and Daniel Sakari.“Competition is part of the game and what makes it interesting. I am up to the task and I intend to fight for selection. For now it is only for me to regain my match fitness,” the defender added.
