A penalty controversy ‘helps’ Juventus defeat Roma

Referee controversies seems to go hand in hand with Juventus. A team which had ‘help’ from the referees during the last 20 years (and that’s one of the reasons why are they so unpopular in Italy) managed a narrow 1-0 win over Jose Mourinho’s Roma. But, the game will be remembered by an interesting call from the referee, who denied Roma’s goal, only to give them penalty, which Szczesny saved, and denied an equalizer. And interesting and high tempo match with good chances will end in headlined, but for the wrong reasons.1 – Jordan Veretout has failed his very first penalty for AS Roma, with his 14th taken in all competitions for the Giallorossi. Roma played an excellent first half and it’s a real shame they didn’t score any goals. Mourinho’s men attacked from the first minute and acted as they were the hosts. Mancini had a good chance at the start of the match, but Szczesny made a good save, and Pellegrini nearly scored minutes after, but his shot went just over the bar, with a slight help from Chiellini. And it was actually Juventus who scored from it’s only shot on target in the first half. It happened in the 15th minute, when De Sciglio made a great cross, Bentancur took a header but only found Kean’s head. The ball bounced off the Italian and into the net. A bit of luck, but nevertheless, a goal.

And just before the end of first half, referee Daniele Orsato made a controversial call. Abraham made a great solo effort, was fouled in the penalty area but still managed to score, but Orsato nullified the goal and ordered Roma to take the penalty. VAR checked everything and the goal was ruled out and penalty was given. But, Veretout’s shot was savedy by Szczesny and Roma was still trailing.Best friends? Sure, maybe off the pitch, but don’t you dare provoking me once we loseKean had a big chance in the 49th minute to seal the victory, but blasted the ball over the bar, while Bernardeschi nearly missed to double the lead in the 62nd minute. Roma had the possession, but failed to create a proper chance, and in fact, didn’t have a shot on target. Overall, Jose Mourinho should be pleased with Roma’s display in Turin, but not with the result.SERIE A – ROUND 8SaturdaySpezia – Salernitana 2-1 (0-1)/Strelec 51, Kovalenko 76 – Simy 39/Lazio – Inter 3-1 (0-1) /Immobile 64 pen, Anderson 81, Milinkovic-Savic 90+1 – Perisic 12 pen/Milan – Verona 3-2 (0-2)/Giroud 59, Kessie 76 pen, Gunter 78 og – Caprari 7, Barak 24 pen/SundayCagliari – Sampdoria 3-1 (1-0)/Pedro 4, 90+4, Caceres 74 – Thorsby 82/Napoli – Torino 1-0 (0-0)/Osimhen 81/Juventus – Roma 1-0 (1-0)/Kean 16/Monday21:45: (4.40) Venezia (3.50) Fiorentina (1.95)
