Protests, match suspension and goals: Newcastle lose their first match with new owners in the stands

New owners were there, 50.000 fiery supporters made a lot of noise and Newcastle managed to score after only 2 minutes. A perfect start for a club with the wealthiest owners in the world, whose supporters finally have hope after 14 years with Mike Ashley as an owner. But, it was just the perfect start, nothing else. For the next 88 minutes, it was all about Tottenham, who survived the pressure after conceding the goal and explored all flaws in Newcastle’s defense for the convincing victory: Newcastle – Tottenham 1-3.🔥🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Frissons pour l’entrée des joueurs de Newcastle pour le premier match d’une nouvelle ère dans le club du nord de l’Angleterre. They were dangerous, they were too quick for the Toon defenders and heck, even Harry Kane scored his first goal of the season, and assisted to his old pal Son for the third. A pleasant night for Spurs in the North East and a second win a row in the Premier League. It started wonderful for the home team, as their best striker, Callum Wilson scored in the second minute of the game, after a cross from Manquillo. But the follow up was bad, as Spurs players just concentrated on Wilson and Saint-Maximin, and other Newcastle players were just too average to make any difference. Goals from Ndombele and a great Harry Kane goal soon followed before the game was suspended in the 38th minute, after a fan collapsed in the stands. After a brief break (until the fan was rushed to the hospital in stable condition), the players went to finish the remaining 7 minutes, and it was enough for Son to score the third goal.⚽️ Harry Kane & Heung-Min Son have both scored in the same PL game for the 1st time since Tottenham’s 2-0 home win v West Brom on Feb 7The pair have now combined for 35 goals in PL, 1 short of Lampard & Drogba’s PL record pic.twitter.com/KR1JFklis8— Sky Sports Statto (@SkySportsStatto) October 17, 2021 Newcastle tried to get that second goal in the other 45 minutes, but Spurs had total control of the match and the enthusiasm of the crowd and new owners soon splashed, as they remained seated and quiet until the end of the game. Eric Dyer’s clumsy reaction and an own goal in the 89th minute didn’t change a thing and Steve Bruce finished his 1000th game as a coach with another defeat. The Magpies remain without a victory after eight games and slipped into the relegation zone with only 3 points. Much work is needed for Amanda Staveley just to keep Newcastle in the Premier League, and if not before, she realized that after seeing her first full Newcastle game.Welcome to St James’ Park, Newcastle. pic.twitter.com/73Procza6q— Simon Watts 🎗 💙 (@SimonWattsHull) October 17, 2021 The path to the Premier League will be a long one, on and off the pitch, as Saudi Arabia owners saw a protest outside the stadium just before the match. A van highlighting the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018 – which US intelligence believes was probably approved by Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman – was parked up alongside St James’ Park as fans headed to the game. On the side of the van were images of both Bin Salman and Khashoggi, with the words “murdered 2.10.18” below.PREMIER LEAGUE – ROUND 8SaturdayWatford – Liverpool 0-5 (0-2)/Sane 6, Firminho 37,52,90+1, Salah 54/Aston Villa – Wolverhampton 2-3 (0-0)/Ings 48, McGinn 68 – Saiss 80, Coady 85, Neves 90+5/Norwich – Brighton 0-0 Man.
