Football Kenya Federation Division One Zone A side SS Assad will be plying their trade in the National Super League (NSL) from next season. This is after they ousted Zone A compatriots Luanda Villa 2-1 in an NSL promotion play-off match staged at Camp Toyoyo on Sunday afternoon.Having both finished second in their respective third tier leagues, the two teams faced off in the match that is normally a preserve for teams that finish second in Zone A and Zone B.While Villa had come close to earning the automatic first place qualification spot as winners Mara Sugar finished only one point ahead of them with 59 points, Assad trailed Zone A champions Naivas by twelve points as they finished in second on 57 points. In the playoff match, Assad made their intentions known as they led the game by a single goal by half time. And despite Villa managing to pull one back momentarily to equalize the game, Assad managed to find the match winning second goal that they held onto until the final whistle to seal the promotion. In winning the match, Assad will join Naivas and Mara Sugar to the country’s second tier league.
