Defensive lapses concern Bidco’s Akhulia

Last season, Bidco United let in more than two goals in the league only once – in the 3-1 defeat in the hands of Gor Mahia at the Moi International Sports Center Kasarani. The team was very solid defensively all season, letting in just 28 goals and were the third-best defense in the league all season. On Friday however they conceded three against Bandari FC and it could have easily been more had the Dockers been more clinical in front of goal and this is something that Coach Anthony AKhulia is worried about and says it has to be fixed soonest. He is particularly concerned by how they defend set-pieces as it played a big role in the defeat to the in-form Dockers.📸📸| Media Day @BidcoUnited #FKFPL pic.twitter.com/sd9kcZljBd— FKF Premier League (@Officialfkfpl) October 11, 2021 “It is worrying when you let in three goals in your second match of the season and we have to work on that quick enough. Before the game we had only conceded three goals in one game, defending has been one of our strong areas and we have to go back to the drawing board and fix it, we cannot continue this way. We particularly need to do better in defending set-pieces because that’s an area that hurt us against Bandari,” he stated.Bidco United have a new central defense pairing with skipper Francis Oduor lining up with new boy Gabriel Wandera. In goal Edwin Mukolwe is the new first-choice custodian following the departure of Zamu Adisa to Wazito and Akhulia believes that his team will be playing well after four to five matches.“We have to work on the entire backline from the goalkeeping because Mukolwe had never let in three goals while playing for us, we also have to work on our central defense, we have been trying out a new partnership between Oduor and Wandera and the understanding will come with time. We will be fine after four or five games,” he continued. When one club men in Kenya are discussed, then Bidco United’s Anthony Akhulia must be in that list. He’s been at the club for 13 yrs after joining as a player in 2007He then transitioned into the TM then becoming Asst manager and leading them to the KPL as head coachRespect🙌 pic.twitter.com/p19JUNw41X— Steve Ruigu Njuguna (@Joashnjuguna) October 6, 2020 Bidco have been relatively active during the off-season window making six signings. Of the six only Gabriel Wandera, Lameck Oloo, and Collins Neto have featured. Brian Nyakan, Derrick Onyango, and Ezekiel Owade are yet to play and Akhulia explained the trio’s absence from the team.”Nyakan, Onyango, and Owade are not yet ready to play and so we will keep pushing them in training so that we can have all our new players available for the coming assignments,” he added.Next for Bidco is an away match against Ulinzi Stars in Nakuru on Wednesday.
