Former Nkana and Lusaka Dynamos midfielder Duncan Otieno has opened up on why the Zambian Super League has seen an influx of Kenyan players in the recent past. A number of Kenyans ply their trade in Zambia most notably, Jesse Were, Ian Otieno, Harrison Mwendwa, David “Calabar” Owino, Shaban Odhoji and Duke Abuya. Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Otieno revealed that the players who first joined the league made a name for Kenyans which paved way for future moves.Be your no one fan and motivator, self motivation and belief is key to every step, never stop believing. pic.twitter.com/ap9sWzEOsn— Duncan Otieno (@DuncanOtieno_26) November 17, 2019 “We have had good ambassadors to Zambia – Were and Calabar were already with Zesco United, Ian and Tololowa were at Red Arrows – they opened more opportunities for us,”“They (Were and Calabar) helped their club win trophies while Ian and Tololwa had good seasons with Red Arrows initially before the former (Ian) moved to Zesco -these guys made it easy for us,” said Otieno. Were, in particular, has been arguably Kenya’s best export to Zambia, becoming Zesco United’s all-time top scorer with over 100 goals thus far and also finished as the club’s top scorer last season.##NAJAVA_MECA_5898733##Otieno also noted that the superiority of the league compared to the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) is another reason that attracts Kenyan players. “The Zambian league is ranked above the FKFPL – it is among the top 10 in Africa and this shows the quality in there. Zambian clubs are regulars in CAF club competitions every year and have two lsots in the Champions League and two in the Confederation Cup,”“The league also has a lot of exposure and a lot of players want that, their teams are also financially stable and pay their players well compared to Kenya,” noted Otieno. Here we go! Duncan Otieno joins Kenya Police“Mine was an issue of payment, you sacrifice a lot when you are out there and it has to be worth it. We go out to look for money to cater for your family. If it gets to a point where you work hard out there and it gets to a point where you are in the same situation you have to consider your options,” he added.
