Danson Kago was on target twice as Mathare United beat Sofapaka 2-1 at Thika Stadium to register their first win of the season, a maiden league win under coach Ezekiel ‘Sachi’ Akwana. Joseph Waithira scoring the consolation for Batoto Ba Mungu.Kago opened the scoring in the 13th minute, connecting a Norman Ogolla cross to give the Slum Boys an early lead.He doubled Mathare’s lead three minutes later, this time latching on to a ball from Eugene Wethuli to grab his brace amd Mathare’s second.The hosts continued with their personnel hitches as they had only two players on the bench for a consecutive game, the only other time where they had more being in the win against Nairobi City Stars in which they had one more.For Mathare, Ezekiel Sachi Akwana again left out Clifford Alwanga and Daniel Otieno in the starting 11, but those that were picked just did the job the way the boss would have wanted it done.Sofapaka were a constant threat from deadballs in the first half, with David King’atua coming close a couple of times but Job Ochieng stood firm in goal.On resumption, Sofapaka came with hopes of getting a goal back as soon as they could to restore their hopes of staging a comeback.Sofapaka were awarded a penalty when a Kago was ruled to have handled the ball in the box. Waithira stepped up to take the resultant kick, slotting it on the right and sending Job the wrong way.The goal rekindled the fighting spirit for Sofapaka who opted to send most of their balls forward in search for an equalizer.Leading 2-1, Akwana introduced Daniel Otieno for Kago in the 73rd minute in an attempt to add to their tally and extend their lead.
