Aussems claims Gor Mahia were afraid of AFC Leopards

AFC Leopards coach Patrick Aussems has hit out at Gor Mahia following their display yesterday in the Mashemeji Derby, a game that K’Ogalo won to extend their dominance over their arch-rivals.Returnee Boniface Omondi scored the all-important goal for the 19-time champions in the first half, a half that Gor exerted dominance. In the second half, things were a bit different as Ingwe took control of the game but they could not make it count with a goal or two.⚽️| New Gor Mahia head coach Mark Harrison gets all the three points in first Mashemeji Derby clash as K’Ogalo maintain 100% start to the season#GorMahia #Sirkal #MashemejiDerby #AFCLeopardshttps://t.co/7LxeefHxht— Mozzart Sport Kenya (@MozzartSportKe) October 20, 2021 Making reference to that half, Aussems said that his team was the only side playing football in the second half, noting that since his appointment at the club in February this year, he has not seen a team afraid of Ingwe as K’Ogalo were.”In the second half we were the only team (playing). Since I came to Kenya, this is the first time I have seen a team afraid of AFC Leopards like that because they brought defenders, tall men, and they kept the ball outside while we played football,” Aussems said.Today’s game between @AFCLeopards and @OfficialGMFC is going to be the 90th edition of the Mashemeji Derby.Gor have the slight upper hand in the previous 89, winning 30 compared to Ingwe’s 27.The remaining 32 have ended in draws.Balance.#MashemejiDerby pic.twitter.com/cMAhsMaeHk— OptaKe (@ke_opta) October 20, 2021 The Belgian has been forced to make do with a youthful side as the club has not been in a position to recruit new players but he has constantly waxed lyrical of their performance in the three games they have played this season. He went ahead to note that he was impressed by their performance in the derby, saying that they would be a good surprise in the league if they continued playing like that.”I am very satisfied with my players, I am very satisfied with my team. Unfortunately, the result is for them so I would like to congratulate Gor Mahia for the victory but we are improving. To be honest, if we keep playing like that we will be a very good surprise in the league,” he addedSince l’ve been in Kenya, this is the 1st time l’ve seen a team afraid of us like that, especially in 2d half. Means we are on the right way! But they got 3 points 🥴… now we really need to recruit strikers to solve our offensive opportunities but that’s the job of the board ! pic.twitter.com/ezXAP4CEO6— Patrick Aussems (@PatrickAussems) October 20, 2021 The former Simba boss has urged the club’s board to consider facilitating bringing in a striker at the club to help them solve their offensive woes.
