It was a night when Borussia got it all, and Bayern received nothing. It was a night when Borussia profited from all their previous losses in Bundesliga, and used all of their chances, while Bayern wouldn’t score if they played additional 90 minutes. It was the night when Monchengladbach played like Bayern. Tonight, Borussia played just like Bayern: strong, furious, aggressive and effective. After just 20 minutes it was already 3-0, after 57 – 5:0. Last time when Bayern conceded three goals in a game was in February against Arminia (3-1) and managed to save a point. But, Borussia was not Arminia. Coach Nagelsmann was at home again, due to Covid-19, but the Bavarians already managed two victories without him, so it wasn’t a handicap for the guests. Both teams fielded out their best squads, even thou it was a DFB Cup, which makes this victory even bigger. Borussia scored in the first minute of the match, when Kone used his chance and in the 14th, it was 2-0 already. Bensebaini scored the second and converted from the penalty spot for 3-0 just 6 minutes later. Bensebaini has now scored four goals in five meetings with Bayern, including a brace in a 2-1 home win over the Bavarians in the 2019/20 Bundesliga.Dayot Upamecano had the worst game of his career, as he was involved with almost every Borussia goal. In fact, he struggled so much against strong Embolo (scored two goals), that he was substituted in the 60th minute, but Borussia scored another goal with Sule in defense. Only after fifth goal did Bavarians tried to get at least a consolation goal, and had a few good chances, but Borussia’s keeper Sommer didn’t allowed it. Oh, just to mention, Lewandowski played as well. The Pole is on 17 goals in 14 competitive games in 2021/22, but has now scored just twice in 20 career meetings with Gladbach.
