Talanta hero Kahiro’s journey from a kit man to a dreaded winger

Back in 2019,Francis Kahiro contemplated quitting football after he was signed as a kit manager at FC Talanta instead of a footballer.Kahiro had gone to try his luck for the second time with the club which by then was turning in the National Super League under the tutelage of coach Abdallah Juma.He had first attended trials at the club in 2018 but his talent did not convince coach John Kamau, the current Wazito assistant coach who by then was the boss at the Communications Authority of Kenya sponsored club. After failing in his first bid, Kahiro ended up at the Athi River based Savanah Cement FC in January 2019 and returned for trials at Talanta mid year only to be acquired as a kit manager after impressing late when the transfer window was hours from being shut and at a time when all the slots in the team had been filled. He finally got a chance to make his debut in the second tier in late 2019 after acquiring his license number but his search for playing time at the competitive football was once again halted last year when sporting activities were halted thanks to the threat posed by coronavirus.86📸📸| Man of the Moment.2 Goals against the Defending champions.Francis Kahiro 🔥🔥 @FcTalanta_CA#FKFPL pic.twitter.com/d0keTs2o50— FKF Premier League (@Officialfkfpl) October 27, 2021 The dread-locked winger’s tribulations didn’t stop there as he was rendered a free agent in the first leg of last season after his contract at Talanta expired but would be recalled in February where he finished as one of the best scorers for the club that was promoted alongside Vihiga Bullets and Kenya Police. The 23-year old made his top flight debut against Wazito in the opening round of the current season but watched the subsequent ties against KCB and Vihiga Bullets from the terraces thanks to a slight ankle injury.Coach Ken Kenyatta drafted him in the team on Wednesday against defending champions Tusker and his decision paid off as the winger netted twice to not only open his goal account in the league but to inspire the team to a 2-1 win over the brewers.Kahiro who wants to build on the brace and challenge for the ‘Golden Boot’ looks back at his football journey that began to blossom at Passenga Boys High School with joy that his hard work has began to procure him success.📸📸| 2 Goals on his Name…Francis Kahiro of @FcTalanta_CA #FKFPL pic.twitter.com/iZ0u9DkIpJ— FKF Premier League (@Officialfkfpl) October 27, 2021 “I think I have seen it all in football. I have failed several times, suffered and rejected but I never thought of giving up. Yes I quit football for some months back in 2019 after I was given the role of kit manager but I fought harder with the determination of saving my career. All I have been praying throughout the years is good health and the opportunity to play,”he narrated shortly after the Tusker game staged at Ruaraka grounds. They say behind every success man there is a woman and in Kahiro’s back lies her mother Mary Mwihaki whom she hailed for supporting his career and offering him a shoulder to lean on during tough times. He revealed that his mother had predicted that Talanta will beat Tusker who are yet to register their first win of the season and he will be on the scorers sheet.”No one has supported me in my career more than my mother. She even told me I will score against Tusker and we will carry the day. I dedicate the win to her and hopefully I will continue making her proud,” he said.
